🛡️ Client Security Centre

Protecting You, Your Information and Your Money

At Willett & Co Solicitors, the security of our clients' information and funds is one of our highest priorities.

Cyber criminals increasingly target law firms and their clients using sophisticated email scams, payment diversion fraud and identity theft.

Our Client Security Centre explains how we protect you, how we communicate with you securely, and what you can do to stay safe.

🔒 Our Security Promise

When you instruct Willett & Co Solicitors, we are committed to:

✅ Protecting your confidential information.

✅ Maintaining secure IT systems and email services.

✅ Continually monitoring for cyber security threats.

✅ Working with specialist IT security professionals.

✅ Taking immediate action if suspicious activity is detected.

✅ Keeping clients informed where appropriate.

💷 Protecting Your Money

Our bank account details have NOT changed.

Cyber criminals sometimes send convincing emails pretending to be from solicitors asking clients to send money to a different bank account.

Before transferring any money

Always telephone us using a trusted telephone number.

☎ 01284 701323

Do not rely solely on an email containing bank details.

We will NEVER ask you to

❌ Transfer money because of a last-minute email.

❌ Ignore previously supplied bank details.

❌ Send money to a different account without independent verification.

👤 Protecting Your Bank Details

Fraudsters do not only target solicitors.

They also attempt to change clients' bank details so completion monies are sent to criminal accounts.

If you provide new bank details by email we may telephone you to verify them before sending any money.

This protects both you and us.

📧 How to Spot a Fraudulent Email

Please contact us immediately if an email:

⚠   Advises that our bank details have changed.

⚠   Requests payment to a different account.

⚠   Appears urgent or pressures you to act quickly.

⚠   Contains unexpected attachments or links.

⚠   Appears to come from an unfamiliar email address.

⚠   Contains unusual spelling or grammatical mistakes.

Always check the sender's email address

Fraudsters often register addresses that look almost identical.

For example:

❌ willettsolicitor.com

instead of

✅ willettsolicitors.com

Always read the full email address carefully.

🖥️ How We Communicate With You

For your protection:

  • We may telephone you to verify payment instructions.
  • We may telephone you to verify changes to your bank details.
  • We may ask security questions before discussing confidential matters.

🏡 Buying or Selling a Property?

Property transactions are one of the most common targets for cyber criminals.

Before sending:

  • Deposit monies
  • Completion monies
  • Balance payments

please telephone us using a trusted telephone number to confirm our bank details.

A few minutes spent checking could prevent the loss of many thousands of pounds.

🚨 If You Think You Have Been Targeted

If you receive an email claiming to be from Willett & Co Solicitors that seems suspicious:

✅ Do not reply.

✅ Do not click links.

✅ Do not open attachments.

✅ Do not transfer any money.

☎ Telephone us immediately on 01284 701323.

If you have already made a payment:

  • Contact your bank immediately.
  • Ask for the payment to be recalled.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

No.

Always verify payment instructions by telephone.

Will you ever change your bank account details?

If our bank details ever changed, we would require independent verification before asking any client to send funds.

Can someone copy your email address?

Yes.

Fraudsters sometimes use addresses that look almost identical to genuine ones.

Always check the full address carefully.

Why do you telephone me to verify my bank details?

Because criminals sometimes intercept emails and substitute fraudulent bank details.
