The firm was established by current Senior Partner Clive Willett in July 1973.
He founded the firm 40-years ago after working for a London firm specialising in commercial law.
For the first 20 years Willett & Co solicitors was based in offices in Lower Baxter Street, then in 1993, two years after acquiring Lewis Palmer & Co, the firm outgrew its old site and moved to the Angel Hill. We acquired Whiteheads in Bury in 1995 and since then we have continued to grow.
David Shipman joined in 1982 and became a partner just a couple of years later.
“When I first joined we had just spent nearly £ 6,000 on a dedicated word processor. – an IBM,” he said.
“We were the first law firm in East Anglia to have one and I can remember we had lots of other firms come in to see how it worked."
“Obviously technology has changed since then but we have kept up to date.”
The firm has continued to see growth through referrals and we pride ourselves on client loyalty, working in some cases for three generations of the same family.
